Photo of Aldham Church, a few miles from us. The round tower was built just over a thousand years ago as a defence against marauding Danes, and the rest of the Church is a later addition, built at some time in the 1200s or 1300s.
Ann's away overnight with her mother, so I'm sitting up late doing odd jobs, easy repair work, and blogging. Must knock off now though and get meself a meal (cold chicken and fry up, I think) then bed. Goodnight all.

Hi Lori and Gary. The great majority of round towered churches are built in Norfolk and Suffolk. Mostly they are Anglo-Saxon and are thought to have been built as defences against Viking raids. Ours are mostly built along the river Waveney about forty five miles north of here. Norfolk has more than we have, one of their better ones has the tower separate from the church, and is at Little Snoring Saint Andrew. Yes, that really is the name of the village (I couldn't invent a name like that, and Norfolk is a sleepy old place- and I speak as a native).

I love this church...I want to live there when I grow up.
I do hope the church stands long enough. It's a lovely idea though, having you living there just across the valley in a lovely building.
