Hi Mike, Beautiful proportions but is that a segmented clerestory or 3 dormer windows in a converted loft? I can't recall seeing anything quite like that in a church roof before!
The former, I think. The church is unique in many ways. A good deal of the interior is built of 11th/12th century Norman brickwork. The books on architecture will tell you that the art of brickmaking in England was lost after the Romans left in circa 409 A.D. and rediscovered in the 15th century. It seems that in a few places that art never was lost. Some of the interior is built of reused Roman bricks and masonry. The church is well worth a look round. Cheers, Mike.
